We offer institutional pricing typically reserved for major conservatories — along with up to 9% in sales tax savings for New York buyers.
With no middlemen or commissioned staff, you’re getting exceptional value on every note.
Each pre-owned Steinway was handcrafted using time-honored techniques, delivering unmatched tone and responsiveness.
At Sanders Pianos, every Steinway is thoroughly inspected, serviced, cleaned, and personally played before being offered for sale.
Steinways are known for their rich, expressive voice — preferred by over 90% of concert pianists worldwide.
Crafted from the world’s finest materials, Steinways hold their integrity and beauty for decades.
It depends on who you ask. Steinway & Sons will tell you their newest pianos are the best — thanks to modern production controls like CNC machining and automated processes. That makes sense; they only profit when you buy new.
In our experience, however, many older Steinways were built with higher-quality woods and greater hands-on craftsmanship. These pianos often have more character, richer tone, and a seasoned charm that only time can provide. That said, not every old Steinway is a good one.
At Sanders Pianos, we hand-select only the finest pre-owned Steinways — meticulously inspected, serviced, and backed with a warranty. When done right, a great pre-owned Steinway can rival or even surpass a brand-new one.
Steinway will say yes — because they either want you to buy a new piano or use their in-house rebuilding services. At Sanders Pianos, we take a different view. We actively seek out pianos with original soundboards in excellent condition. When needed, small cracks can be expertly shimmed using matching spruce, and the crown can be reestablished — without compromising tone.
In our experience, original soundboards made from old-growth spruce often produce a warmer, more complex sound — much like an older violin. With the right care and craftsmanship, an original soundboard can be not just acceptable — but superior.
While pricing can vary based on model, condition, and level of restoration, a fully restored Steinway typically costs about half the price of a new one. Visually and tonally, a properly restored Steinway is often nearly indistinguishable from new — making it an exceptional value for discerning buyers.
Each piano is one of a kind. Due to the rarity of our instruments and high demand from institutions and private clients, availability is limited.
Whether you’re a concert pianist or a lifelong admirer of fine instruments, you deserve expert guidance and a Steinway worthy of your legacy.
