Founded in 1893, Estonia Pianos is a “small batch” producer of fewer than 150 high-end pianos annually. These pianos are known for their exemplary fit-and-finish and musicality and are comprised of the finest European parts and materials: Kluge keys, Renner actions, Swiss or Italian spruce from the high-altitude Alps, German beech pin blocks, and Roslau strings with bass strings hand-wound by Estonia in copper from Adolf Edelhoff, Germany. Only the best materials can make the best pianos, which is why Estonia is the only manufacturer standing behind their instruments with a full 15-year structural warranty (available only through Sanders Pianos). Estonia pianos are handcrafted entirely by European craftspeople in Tallinn, Estonia.

One of the things that struck me when I began speaking with Dr. Indrek Laul, owner of Estonia Piano, is that it is still a small, family-owned company, steeped in dedication, innovation, a passion for excellence, pride in hand craftsmanship, and personal relationships. Estonia’s overhead is low, and they own their own factory. They are debt-free, with no layers of high-paid executives and a non-union workforce handcrafting in a low-cost European country.

Before leaving the factory, each Estonia piano is played by a Laul family member to ensure that it is worthy of the Estonia name. Dr. Laul certifies each piano with a hand-signed letter specific to each piano’s serial number, and this letter stays with the piano along the proud signatures of each craftsperson whose skills contributed to the completion of the instrument.
